Thai vegetables and herbs · for restaurants and wholesale buyers

A real tom yum, green curry or pad thai is impossible without Thai herbs: lemongrass, galangal, kaffir lime leaves, Thai basil and chilli. I help restaurants and wholesale buyers find suppliers of Thai vegetables and herbs and set up regular deliveries.

Mike Boldyrev: 14 years in Thailand, with experience shipping vegetables abroad. Clients come to me from Russia, the CIS and many other countries; terms are discussed individually.

Who it is for

Thai and Asian restaurants

They need fresh, authentic herbs and vegetables for the menu, regularly and in small batches. Without them, dishes lose their real Thai taste.

Wholesale buyers and shops

Exotic vegetables and root crops for Asian grocery stores and chains.

Vegetables and herbs for Thai cooking

Thai herbs

Lemongrass, galangal, kaffir lime leaves, Thai and holy basil, chilli, coriander with roots, Thai mint. The most common item in restaurant orders.

Thai eggplants

Round green and small pea eggplants, essential for a real green curry.

Wok vegetables

Water spinach (morning glory), long beans, bamboo shoots, banana blossom.

Exotic vegetables

Bitter gourd, luffa and bottle gourd that taste like young courgette, large daikon.

Root crops and pumpkin

Sweet potato, taro (eaten only cooked), jicama for salads, Thai pumpkin. They keep longer than herbs and are easier to ship.

Ready products

Curry pastes, sauces, coconut milk. They keep a long time and can go in the same shipment.

Tailored deliveries for restaurants

A restaurant does not need a container of vegetables. It needs fresh herbs and vegetables for its menu, reliably and in small volumes. For this I arrange tailored deliveries:

  • A range for your menu. A list of items and quantities for each delivery.
  • Regular schedule. Air deliveries on an agreed schedule.
  • Freshness. Buying close to the shipping date, proper packing and cooling.
  • Freezing as an option. Galangal, lemongrass and kaffir lime leaves can be supplied frozen, which cuts losses.
  • All in one shipment. Herbs, vegetables, fruit, pastes and sauces.
  • A trial box. First a test delivery: we check quality, logistics and the real cost per kilogram.

How we calculate the cost per kilogram

With small air shipments, the purchase price is only part of the cost. The total per kilogram adds up like this:

  • Purchase. The supplier's price for vegetables and herbs.
  • Packing. Boxes, ventilated or insulated, and cooling packs. They add weight.
  • Documents. A phytosanitary certificate and export documents for every shipment.
  • Air freight. By actual or volumetric weight, plus the carrier's minimum charge per shipment.
  • Clearance and delivery. Duties, fees and delivery from the airport in your country.

We divide the total by the net weight of the goods without packing. On small batches, minimum charges and documents weigh most, so a trial box shows the real price per kilogram before regular deliveries start.

Cold chain, receiving and risks

  • Temperature. Each herb has its own regime: some, such as Thai basil, are damaged by too much cold, while root crops and pumpkin are less demanding. We agree the regime and packing with the supplier and the forwarder.
  • Receiving. On delivery, record photos and videos, the weight and the condition of the goods on the spot: without this a claim is hard to prove.
  • Delays and spoilage. Fresh herbs are perishable, and a flight delay can never be fully ruled out. We write compensation terms into the supplier contract in advance and check carrier liability and insurance with the forwarder.

How vegetable exports from Thailand work

  1. Supplier. A farm or export company with experience shipping to your country. Often the same farms that grow fruit.
  2. Range and quality. We fix the list of items and the requirements for freshness, size and packing in advance.
  3. Documents. Usually a phytosanitary certificate, a certificate of origin, an invoice and a packing list.
  4. Logistics. Fresh herbs go by air. Root crops and pumpkin go by air, or by sea in a reefer container for large batches.
  5. Shipment check. Checking the goods and packing before dispatch, photos and videos for you.

Documents and restrictions

Fresh vegetables and herbs go through phytosanitary control. The certificate is issued by Thailand's Department of Agriculture.

Some countries restrict certain fresh herbs and plants or set special requirements. We check the item list for your country before the first delivery.

Pastes, sauces and other ready products are cleared as food products under your country's rules.

How I help

  1. Finding suppliers. Farms, export companies, wholesale markets.
  2. Checks. Company registration, export experience, a site visit, photos and videos.
  3. Negotiations. Price, schedule, packing and minimum volumes, in Thai.
  4. Delivery checks. Checking the goods before every shipment.
  5. Logistics. A forwarder and a customs broker. Broker in Thailand →

From experience. Both wholesale buyers and restaurants that need tailored deliveries of Thai herbs and vegetables come to me. I find suppliers, agree the range and schedule, check the goods and arrange shipping.

Frequently asked questions

Can small regular deliveries be arranged for a restaurant?

Yes. It is air delivery on an agreed schedule. The cost per kilogram is higher than for large batches, so we start with a test delivery and do the maths.

How do you keep herbs fresh?

Buying close to the shipping date, proper packing and the right temperature for each item, air delivery. Some herbs can be ordered frozen.

What if the flight is delayed and the herbs spoil?

The risk of a delay can never be fully ruled out. So we write compensation terms into the contract in advance, check carrier liability and insurance with the forwarder, and record the goods on photo and video as soon as they arrive.

Can vegetables be shipped together with fruit?

Yes, they are often the same suppliers, and everything can go in one shipment.

Are there restrictions on importing Thai herbs?

It depends on the country: some plants are restricted or have special requirements. We check the item list before the first delivery.

Do you only work with Russia?

No. Most requests come from Russia and the CIS, but I work with clients from many countries; terms are discussed individually.
