Why seafood from Thailand
- A major exporter. Thailand is one of the world's leading exporters of shrimp and canned tuna.
- Developed processing. Freezing, cutting, drying, and making snacks and canned goods for export.
- Wide choice. From fresh fish and live crabs to dried squid and crunchy snacks to go with drinks.
- Export experience. Many producers have long worked with foreign buyers.
What seafood you can buy in Thailand
Fish
Farmed (tilapia, pangasius, barramundi) and wild-caught (grouper, yellowfin tuna, barracuda, cobia). Wild sea fish usually costs more than farmed.
Shrimp
Mostly farmed. Whole or processed, head-on or headless, peeled, raw or cooked, in different sizes.
Squid and octopus
Whole, cleaned, rings, tubes, tentacles; block-frozen or individually frozen.
Crabs
Blue swimming crab and mud crab: live, cooked, frozen and as crab meat.
Mussels, oysters, shellfish
Green mussels, oysters and other farmed shellfish, fresh and frozen.
Dried seafood
Dried squid and shrimp, dried and cured fish. They keep well and are easier to ship.
Snacks for drinks
Squid and fish snacks, crispy fish skin, seaweed, prawn crackers. Packing under your own brand is often possible.
Canned seafood
Tuna, sardines, mackerel and other canned fish, in cans and pouches.
What to fix in the specification
- Size grade. The number of pieces per kilogram or per pound: for example, 31/40 shrimp means 31–40 pieces, but whether per kg or per lb must be stated. We fix the unit, the size range and the allowed tolerance in the contract.
- Glaze and net weight. The glaze percentage and the net weight without ice. You should pay for seafood, not water, so the net weight and tolerance go into the contract.
- Freezing and temperature. Individual or block freezing, storage and loading temperature: usually −18 °C or lower for frozen products.
- Processing. Head-on or headless, peeled or not, raw or cooked, cut.
- Additives. Whether moisture-retaining agents are used and whether they are allowed in your country.
- Origin. Farmed or wild-caught, region, supply stability.
- Packing and labelling. Pack sizes, label language, the option of your own brand.
How we check a shipment
- Inspection at the warehouse. Packing and labelling, appearance, a sample check of size and net weight after thawing. Photos and videos for you.
- Temperature. Measuring the product and reefer container temperature at loading.
- Laboratory. Chemical and microbiological testing is done by an independent accredited lab or an inspection company, at extra cost.
- Export approval. Whether the plant is approved for export to your country is confirmed against official data from your country's veterinary authority.
I am not a laboratory: my inspection is a visual check, sample measurements and a photo report. Product safety is confirmed by lab tests and veterinary documents.
Documents and logistics
Fresh and frozen seafood is subject to veterinary control. Veterinary certificates are needed, and the producing plant usually has to be approved for export to the buyer's country. We check this before negotiating prices.
For Russia and the EAEU, fish products must meet technical regulation TR EAEU 040/2016 on the safety of fish and fish products. Requirements for other countries are checked separately.
Dried seafood and snacks are usually easier to ship, but they also need food product documents as required by your country.
Delivery. Chilled products go by air; frozen products by sea in a reefer container; dried products and snacks in a standard container or by air.

Frequently asked questions
Which is easier to start with: frozen seafood or snacks?
Dried seafood and snacks are usually simpler in logistics and paperwork, so many buyers start with them. Frozen products need a cold chain and veterinary control.
Can frozen shrimp be supplied to Russia?
Yes, from plants approved for export to Russia and the EAEU. We check this first, before negotiating prices.
What does a 31/40 size mean?
31–40 pieces per unit of weight. For export the size is counted per kilogram or per pound, so we always state the unit in the specification and contract.
Can I order snacks under my own brand?
Yes, many snack makers offer packing under the buyer's brand. Terms and minimum order depend on the factory.
Can I get samples first?
Yes, and I recommend it. Dried products and snacks are easier to send; for frozen products we discuss options.
Do you only work with Russia?
No. Most requests come from Russia and the CIS, but I work with buyers from many countries; terms are discussed individually.
