How notarisation works in Thailand
Thailand doesn't have notaries in the usual sense. Signatures, document copies and translations are certified by Thai lawyers with a special licence, Notarial Services Attorneys. They work at law firms, and finding one on your own without Thai can be difficult.
If the document is needed abroad, notarisation alone is often not enough: it may also need legalisation at Thailand's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and at the embassy of the country where it will be used. Requirements depend on the document and the receiving party, so it's best to confirm them before starting. That's where I begin.
Which route suits your document
| Route | When it fits | What matters |
|---|---|---|
| Notarial lawyer in Thailand | Signature, copies, power of attorney, translation | For use abroad, legalisation is often needed as well |
| Your country's consulate | A document for your home country, and you're its citizen | Services and appointments are listed on the consulate's website |
| Certified translation | A Thai document is needed in another language, or the reverse | We confirm the certification format with the receiving party |

How I help, step by step
- I look at the documents and find out where and for what they will be used.
- I choose the route: a notarial lawyer, translation, legalisation or the consulate, whatever you actually need.
- I give you the timing and price before work starts.
- I book the lawyer and go with you: I interpret the meeting and make sure names, dates and document numbers match your passport exactly.
- I collect the finished documents and, if needed, handle legalisation.
What to watch out for
- The receiving party's requirements. Find out in advance what certification and translation format the bank, authority or foreign body will accept. Redoing it takes longer and costs more.
- Spelling of your name. The transliteration must match your passport in every document. One extra letter can lead to a rejection.
- Understanding the lawyer. If your question gets a short “I can!” with no explanation, be careful. You need to understand exactly what you're signing and why.
Prices
half day, up to 4 hours
per page
per page; the notary lawyer, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and embassy fees are separate
All prices include 7% VAT.
Included in “from 5,290 ฿”: clarifying the purpose of the document and the receiving party’s requirements, translation with a check of names and dates, the translator’s certificate and company stamp, booking the notary lawyer and coordinating the agreed stages, updates on progress and handover of the finished documents.
Separately: the notary lawyer’s fee, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and embassy fees, courier, transport, urgency and additional work; I include these costs in a preliminary estimate. Not every document needs a notary, the Ministry and the embassy all at once. Before payment I confirm in writing the scope of work, extra costs, the final price and the timeline.
The notarial lawyer's fee, government fees and transport are paid separately. I give the exact price after seeing the documents. Payment is by PromptPay, bank transfer in Thailand or SWIFT from abroad.
Please note: I'm an interpreter and representative, not a lawyer or a notary. Notarisation is done by a licensed notarial lawyer, and legal advice is given by licensed Thai lawyers; I arrange the meeting and interpret it.
