Notary in Pattaya: how it works

Thailand doesn't have notaries in the usual sense. Signatures, document copies and translations are certified by Thai lawyers with a special licence, Notarial Services Attorneys. In Pattaya they work at law firms, and many advertise in Russian. But an ad in Russian doesn't mean you'll be understood precisely or won't be sold services you don't need.

If the document is needed abroad, notarisation alone is often not enough: it may also need legalisation at Thailand's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and at the embassy of the country where it will be used. Requirements depend on the document and the receiving party, so I confirm them before starting.

How to choose a notary in Pattaya without mistakes

  • Check the licence. Ask to see proof that the lawyer is authorised to provide notarial services.
  • Ask a question you know the answer to. It quickly shows whether the specialist knows the subject.
  • Be careful if everything is “no problem”. When every question is presented as simple and in your favour, even when there are no options, it's a reason to pause.
  • Check the written communication. If you're handling things from abroad, the lawyer should explain things in writing as clearly as at the meeting.
  • Don't sign what you don't understand. Ask for a translation and ask your questions before you sign, not after.

How I help, step by step

  1. I look at the documents and find out where and for what they will be used.
  2. I choose the route and give you the timing and price before work starts.
  3. I come to Pattaya, go with you to the notarial lawyer and interpret the meeting. I make sure names, dates and document numbers match your passport.
  4. I help with translation and legalisation if the document is needed abroad.

Document translation can often be done remotely: you send a photo or scan and I translate it without a trip.

All prices include 7% VAT.

Included in “from 5,290 ฿”: clarifying the purpose of the document and the receiving party’s requirements, translation with a check of names and dates, the translator’s certificate and company stamp, booking the notary lawyer and coordinating the agreed stages, updates on progress and handover of the finished documents.

Separately: the notary lawyer’s fee, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and embassy fees, courier, transport, urgency and additional work; I include these costs in a preliminary estimate. Not every document needs a notary, the Ministry and the embassy all at once. Before payment I confirm in writing the scope of work, extra costs, the final price and the timeline.

The notarial lawyer's fee, government fees and transport are paid separately. I give the exact price after seeing the documents. Payment is by PromptPay, bank transfer in Thailand or SWIFT from abroad.

Please note: I'm an interpreter and representative, not a lawyer or a notary. Notarisation is done by a licensed notarial lawyer, and legal advice is given by licensed Thai lawyers; I arrange the meeting and interpret it.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a notary in Pattaya cost?

My trip to Pattaya is 11,900 ฿ for a full day; certified translation is from 3,190 ฿ per page. The notarial lawyer's fee and government fees are separate; I tell you the cost after seeing the documents.

Do I need a Russian-speaking notary in Pattaya?

Not necessarily. I interpret the meeting with a Thai lawyer, so you understand every word and can ask any question.

Do I need to go to Bangkok?

Notarisation can be done in Pattaya. If legalisation at the Ministry and an embassy is needed, that step can often be done without your trip. We confirm the procedure in advance.

Do I need to be there in person?

To certify your signature, usually yes. Document translation can often be done remotely.

I'm abroad. How do I make a power of attorney for Thailand?

Usually the power of attorney is made where you are, then legalised for Thailand and translated into Thai. Requirements depend on who will accept it: the land office, a bank or the condo management. I'll help confirm them in advance and do the translation.

How long does it take?

It depends on the document and whether legalisation is needed. I give the timing after seeing the documents, before work starts.
