What chaga tea is

Chaga is a birch mushroom traditionally used to make a drink. Chaga tea is drunk instead of ordinary tea or coffee: it has a mild, earthy taste and is brewed from the ground mushroom, in tea bags or as an instant powder.

Is there demand for chaga tea in Thailand

Mushrooms are familiar

Reishi (lingzhi) products are popular in Thailand. Buyers who know them find it easier to understand what chaga is.

Herbal culture

Thais actively buy herbal teas and natural products, especially in big cities.

Foreign buyers

Chinese and Korean buyers in Thailand, plus Russian-speaking tourists and residents who already know chaga.

But to be honest: for most Thais chaga is still an unfamiliar product. It needs to be presented and explained properly, so entering the market takes preparation and patience.

Important: no medical claims

The Thai FDA strictly controls what is written on packaging and in advertising for food and herbal products. Phrases such as “cures”, “lowers blood sugar”, “normalises blood pressure” or “helps with diseases” are prohibited without official registration as a medicine.

With such wording a product can be refused registration, and advertising violations carry fines. We prepare the product description, label and advertising texts so that they comply with Thai rules.

What you need to import chaga into Thailand

  • A licensed Thai importer. A product for sale can be imported by a company in Thailand with the right licences: your own or a partner importer.
  • Thai FDA registration. The product's status (tea, food supplement or herbal product) is determined at registration. The document package and what may be written on the packaging depend on it.
  • Manufacturer's documents. Ingredients, specification, lab test results, production details, certificate of origin.
  • A Thai-language label. With the mandatory information.
  • Import duties and VAT. We calculate them precisely with a broker for your product.

Requirements change, so we check the current procedure for your product before the first shipment.

Two routes into the Thai market

Your own company in Thailand

Pros: Control over brand, prices and marketing; higher potential profit

Cons: Registration, licences, promotion and sales are all on you

Who it suits: Those ready for the long term and to invest in promotion

Through a Thai distributor

Pros: Faster start, less investment; the partner already has licences and sales channels

Cons: The distributor's margin; less control over sales

Who it suits: Those who want to test demand and get first sales

Frequently asked questions

Does chaga need Thai FDA registration?

To sell in Thailand, as a rule yes. We determine the product category and document package for your product with licensed specialists.

Can I say chaga cures or boosts health?

No. Medical claims on the packaging and in advertising for food and herbal products are prohibited in Thailand. We prepare the product description according to Thai rules.

Can chaga be sold online in Thailand?

Yes, through marketplaces and your own website, but only registered products with a Thai-language label.

Do I need my own company in Thailand?

Not necessarily. You can work through a licensed Thai importer or distributor. Your own company gives more control but needs more investment.

Do you only work with Russia?

No. Most requests come from Russia and the CIS, but I work with clients from many countries; terms are discussed individually.
